The Universe Is Speaking

The heavens praise your wonders, LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings? - Psalm 89:5–6

“The universe is trying to tell you something.”

It's a phrase you hear often these days. Our culture has become much more spiritually open, and many people now speak of the universe as though it were an intelligent force that guides our lives, sends us signs, and directs our decisions. The stars, they say, are trying to communicate with us.

God's Word tells a truer and far more glorious story.

The heavens are indeed speaking. But their message is not about us. They are not revealing our destiny or whispering personal guidance. Their constant proclamation is the greatness of the God who made them. The stars praise his incomparable wonders and faithfulness.

As beautiful and useful as the stars are for marking seasons, inspiring wonder, or giving us a long weekend, their greatest purpose is to direct our eyes beyond themselves to their Creator. They remind us that the faithful God who hung the stars in place has also sent his Son to save his people. And through Christ, God is making us blameless and pure, shining like stars in the sky (Philippians 2:15).

The universe is telling us something. It’s calling us to lift our eyes, worship the Creator, and trust his unfailing faithfulness.
