Who Is This Jesus?

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter...” The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. - Acts 8:32, 34-35

I want to share a story told to me by the chaplain at UCOL that I found incredibly encouraging, and I hope you do too.

Recently, a homesick international student from Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom near the Himalayas, came to her office with a handwritten prayer that began, “Dear Jesus.”

He said, “I found this on the internet. I’ve been praying this prayer, and it’s working; I feel much better when I pray it. But who is this Jesus?”

How amazing is that?!

The chaplain explained who Jesus is and shared her testimony of how she came to believe in and follow him. Then she asked if he would like to know Jesus and follow him too.

“Yes! How do I do that? Where do you go to learn more about Jesus?”

She connected him with a nearby church. He went along that Sunday and, as it happened, they were running an evangelistic course at the time. Since then, he has become a Christian and committed to follow Jesus as his Saviour and Lord. Hallelujah!

As I share this story, I want to highlight two things.

First, God is still at work saving people just like he did with the eunuch in Acts 8, and he’s doing it right here. As we pray for 15 people to come to faith through our church, be encouraged to know that’s not a far-fetched goal!

Second, God used a prayer that someone wrote and put online to save a lonely stranger 11,000km from home. Imagine getting to heaven and finding some small thing you did will be celebrated for eternity!

So, what’s one small thing you could do today that God might use for his glory?
